The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has opened admissions for the 2025–26 academic session, providing an alternative pathway for students from "dummy schools"—institutions where students are enrolled but do not attend regular classes. Starting from the 2025–26 academic year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) mandates a minimum of 75% attendance for eligibility to appear in Class 12 board exams. Students failing to meet this criterion may be barred from taking CBSE exams and are encouraged to enroll in NIOS to continue their education.
